Busy busy - This year has seen a flurry of unit management plans in our region that called for chapter comment. One pleasant outcome of my work on these for the chapter has been learning more about the state land parcels in our area. Brasher, Pleasant Lake, Whiskey Flats… some parcels are interesting places where chapter members should visit and then plan to lead an outing.

Grass River/Tooley Pond UMP - David Katz, the incoming VP for Conservation, and I have attended hearings and sent a lengthy letter to NYDEC praising the plan, encouraging preservation of the wildlife and minimization of roads, and suggesting some features for hikers and cyclists. The Grass River state parcels and the two large easement areas in this package have long been popular areas for our chapter.

Boreas Ponds classification by APA - David attended the hearing in Canton and we have drafted a letter to the APA recommending much of the land in this parcel be designated Wilderness, minimizing motor access except by the handicapped and for emergencies. This has been the position of the ADK at the club level, also.

Valedictory - With this report, I hand off the baton to my successor. David has been working with me for a few months already and is on top of things. Give him your full support..
